Vitality reverse-sweep Falcons to clinch EPL Season 24 spot

Vitality recovered from an opening-map loss to defeat Falcons 2-1 in the ESL Pro League Season 24 2-0 pool, winning 9-13 on Anubis, 13-4 on Dust2 and 13-8 on Mirage. The victory secured Vitality’s place in the playoffs as the second team to qualify.

Falcons won the first map on Anubis 13-9. Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov logged a 10-1 opening-duel record and a 1.87 rating, a performance that helped Falcons convert their rounds after Vitality narrowed the early deficit with a pistol-round win.

Vitality dominated Dust2, taking the map 13-4. Shahar “flameZ” Shushan posted a 2.10 rating for Falcons but could not stop Vitality’s coordinated attack. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire contributed key frags and in-game direction that produced the decisive rounds.

The series ended on Mirage, where Falcons briefly closed the gap after winning a pistol round, but Vitality’s defense limited entry attempts and closed the map 13-8. Robin “ropz” Kool and William “mezii” Merriman anchored defensive stands. Maksim “kyousuke” Lukin struggled across the first two maps before improving on Mirage, but his recovery came too late to change the result.

The win ended a five-series losing streak for Vitality against Falcons; their last series victory over the Danish-led squad came in the final of ESL Pro League Season 22 nearly a year ago. The teams last met at the IEM Cologne Major, where Falcons won a quarter-final en route to the event title. apEX described that Major loss as one that “stung” during the broadcast.

With the victory Vitality advance from the 2-0 pool into the ESL Pro League Season 24 playoffs. Falcons remain in the tournament and must secure further results to progress from their pool stage position.
