Vitality beat MOUZ 2-1, one win from Stage 3 playoffs
Vitality defeated MOUZ 2-1 at IEM Cologne; Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut recorded 57 kills and Vitality sit one win from qualifying for the Stage 3 playoffs.
Vitality defeated MOUZ 2-1 on the IEM Cologne stage, winning Mirage and Inferno while dropping Dust2. The result leaves Vitality one victory away from securing a spot in the Stage 3 playoffs; MOUZ must win its remaining matches to avoid elimination.
Mirage opened the series. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut won a first-round 1v2 clutch that helped Vitality build a 5-0 lead on the CT side. MOUZ responded with a run led by Dorian “xertioN” Berman, who produced a strong round impact and helped erase the deficit. Vitality regained control after winning the pistol round, and William “mezii” Merriman contributed late-round kills that completed the map win for Vitality.
Dust2 was closely contested. ZywOo began the pistol round with a four-kill burst using Dual Berettas, but Vitality lost the anti-force round when Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin picked up three quick kills with a Galil on A. MOUZ stabilized on the CT side, converting two separate 2v3 post-plant situations to secure the map. Vitality are now on a two-game losing streak on Dust2 at the event.
Inferno decided the match. In the first half ZywOo and Robin “ropz” Kool combined for 33 kills to give Vitality an 8-4 lead. Vitality carried that advantage into the second half, winning five rounds in a row to close out the series on Inferno.
Individual match statistics highlighted ZywOo with a 57-31 kill-death line, 101.3 average damage per round and a 1.63 match rating. Ropz recorded 47 kills with an 84.3 ADR and a 1.23 rating. For MOUZ, xertioN finished 36-43 with an 83.4 ADR and a 1.07 rating.
In post-match comments, Shahar “flameZ” Shushan pointed to rotation timing and small errors on Dust2 as factors in the map loss: “We were a bit slow on the rotations, and sometimes it catches us off-guard. I don’t know if it’s nerves from the Major or… It happens. Those mistakes are crucial, and some of the rounds we lost, MOUZ did really good plays and got really good headshots. But we’re still very confident on Dust2. It’s really small mistakes that led us to losing this map. But we’re still confident.”
The win improves Vitality’s position in the IEM Cologne group stage; MOUZ remains at risk of elimination and must win upcoming matches to progress.
