Vietnam signs MoU with VTC to build national esports ecosystem
Vietnam Sports Department, state-owned VTC and VIRESA signed an MoU in Hanoi to develop a national esports ecosystem from 2026-2030 and launch the Grand Esports 2026 series.
The Vietnam Sports Department, state-owned Vietnam Multimedia Communications Corporation (VTC) and the Vietnam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA) signed a memorandum of understanding in Hanoi to develop a national esports ecosystem covering 2026-2030 and to stage a national event series in 2026.
The agreement sets out three main objectives: produce esports content that supports Vietnam’s cultural industry strategy, grow the sports economy through digital business models and sponsorships, and create a professional, transparent esports framework that follows international standards.
The partners announced the Grand Esports 2026 series, a four-part national program. The first event, the Vietnam Esports National Cup 2026 (VENC 2026), will feature the tactical first-person shooter Crossfire and the VTC-published rhythm and fashion mobile game Au Mobile, with a total prize pool of about US$13,000.
The Esports Grand Championship 2026 (EGC 2026) will invite club teams from countries including South Korea, Japan, China, Malaysia and Thailand to compete in titles such as Audition Online, Summoners War and Au Mobile.
The Grand Esports Festival 2026 will host panels on esports careers, tourism-linked activities and cosplay. The Grand Esports Awards 2026 will recognize individuals and organizations that have contributed to the development of Vietnam’s esports industry.
Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, Director General of the Vietnam Sports Department, stated the department will study digital sports business models, commercial activities and sponsorship opportunities to help build a sustainable sports economy in the digital era. The partners plan to align national competition rules more closely with regional multi-sport events such as the Southeast Asian Games and the Asian Games.
Vietnam has recent experience hosting international esports events. In November 2025, Esports Championships Asia (ECA 2025) took place in Can Tho City with participants from across Asia. Vietnam also hosted the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) Finals Weekend in 2025, which brought together teams from Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau and Oceania.
Organizers said the titles included in Grand Esports 2026 retain strong local followings due to regular domestic tournaments that maintain player and fan engagement.
