VALORANT disables Cypher after Spycam gun exploit
Riot Games pulled Cypher from the agent pool after May 28 videos showed players attaching dropped guns to his Spycam and firing them remotely.
Riot Games removed Cypher from selection across all VALORANT game modes after videos posted on May 28 showed players attaching dropped firearms to his Spycam and firing them from the camera’s position.
The exploit allowed players to place a dropped gun so it aligned with Cypher’s Spycam, then use the camera view to shoot opponents without exposing their in-game characters. That method let users engage enemies from angles and positions they could not normally occupy.
Riot pulled the agent while developers investigate and prepare a patch to stop the Spycam from mounting and discharging weapons. The studio has used temporary agent removals before to address critical gameplay bugs, including past fixes for Omen and Neon. An earlier defect with Neon’s Fast Lane ability gave players vision through walls until it was corrected.
Cypher’s Spycam is a deployable utility meant for scouting and marking opponents by allowing remote viewing of areas. The reported issue did not change the camera’s scouting function but created an unintended interaction that let a nearby firearm be fired from the camera’s location.
Players in ranked matches, casual play, and organized competitions cannot select Cypher until Riot confirms a fix and restores the character to the agent pool. Riot has not provided technical details or a timeline for a corrective update.
