Spirit stand-in S0tF1k to learn role after PGL Astana

Dmitry ‘S0tF1k’ Forostyanko will find out whether he stays with Spirit’s main roster after PGL Astana, where he stood in while head coach Sergey ‘hally’ Shavaev is sidelined.

Dmitry ‘S0tF1k’ Forostyanko will learn his future with Spirit’s main roster after PGL Astana, the team announced. He stood in for head coach Sergey ‘hally’ Shavaev, who is sidelined for health reasons, and led Spirit to the event’s grand final following a dominant semi-final win over MOUZ in Astana.

Spirit dropped five rounds across two maps in the semi-final, securing a second straight final appearance after reaching the IEM Rio final in April. The run at PGL Astana marks the second tournament where Forostyanko has filled the head-coach role for the organization.

Forostyanko has reunited with players he coached in Spirit’s academy, including Danil ‘donk’ Kryshkovets and Myroslav ‘zont1x’ Plakhotia. He described his work with the roster as a series of small changes to the existing system, focusing on game plans and consulting with Boris ‘magixx’ Vorobyev on pistol rounds and force buys. ‘I think I’m changing a lot, but a bit,’ he said.

Players offered mixed views on his impact. Star player sh1ro credited improvements to utility use, zont1x suggested broader differences in approach, and donk said little had changed. Forostyanko said staff and players now collaborate more closely, bringing ideas to him and to magixx and then constructing ways to implement them.

When asked about hally’s return and what it would mean for his role, Forostyanko gave a short timeline: ‘We will see after Astana.’ He declined to discuss long-term plans while the tournament is ongoing.

Spirit could face Falcons in the final, a potential rematch of the Rio title match. Forostyanko noted the matchup will differ with Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen in Falcons’ lineup and said Spirit will focus on its own style and avoiding predictability rather than making major tactical changes.

Forostyanko also pointed to recent individual improvements on the roster, citing better contributions from tN1R and saying the team is trying to create space for different players to step up depending on how rounds develop.

The organization and coaching staff will decide on Forostyanko’s status with the main squad after PGL Astana concludes.
