Team Liquid clinches Worlds spot after one-year absence

Team Liquid swept FlyQuest 3-0 in their opening match of the LCS Summer Playoffs to secure a place at the 2026 World Championship. The win ends a one-year absence from Worlds for the organization.

Brandon “Josedeodo” Villegas earned Player of the Series honors for his play in the jungle. Team Liquid finished the regular season 6-1 and had a first-round bye in the playoffs, meaning the club needed only a single playoff victory to qualify for Worlds.

The squad applied early pressure throughout the series, limiting FlyQuest’s options, controlling objectives and setting the tempo across all three games. FlyQuest was unable to recover from early deficits in each match, and decisive team fights closed games before late-game scaling could take effect.

The win guarantees Team Liquid a slot at Worlds 2026, which will be held in North America. Their seeding at the tournament will depend on results in the remainder of the Summer Playoffs; Team Liquid must win at least one more match to avoid the Play-In stage and secure direct entry into the Swiss Stage.

Team Liquid’s next match is scheduled against Cloud9 on Sunday, September 27. The winner of that match will advance to the Grand Finals of the LCS Summer Playoffs.

The organization missed the 2025 World Championship and made roster changes in the off-season, including an overhaul of its topside. Those changes and the team’s 6-1 regular-season record preceded the playoff sweep.

Attention now turns to the Cloud9 match and the remaining playoff bracket as Team Liquid prepares for Worlds and for opportunities to improve their seeding.
