Overwatch x YOASOBI: New Genji, Hanzo, Kiriko Skins July 1
Blizzard announced a collaboration with Japanese duo YOASOBI in Tokyo. The event starts July 1 and adds Kiriko, Genji and Hanzo skins, a Genji short story and the song ‘Orion’.
Blizzard Entertainment announced a collaboration between Overwatch and Japanese music duo YOASOBI at a presentation in Tokyo. The in-game event begins July 1 and will add new Kiriko, Genji and Hanzo skins, a short story focused on Genji, and a new song titled ‘Orion’.
The Tokyo presentation included Overwatch developers and YOASOBI. Players will be able to unlock themed cosmetic rewards and access a story expansion that centers on Genji’s journey to Tokyo and childhood memories involving Hanzo and Kiriko.
YOASOBI composed ‘Orion’ inspired by Genji’s storyline. The track will appear on a special Overwatch edition of the duo’s final album in their THE BOOK series, scheduled for release on June 26. The album edition provides a way for listeners outside the game to hear the music tied to the event.
Blizzard described the collaboration as a crossover that pairs new music, narrative content and visual updates. The story expansion places Genji in Tokyo and revisits formative moments with Hanzo and Kiriko, while the cosmetic items change the appearance options for the three heroes.
Overwatch is Blizzard’s team-based shooter with a rotating roster of heroes and character backstories. YOASOBI adapts short fiction into songs and has gained international recognition for a narrative-driven approach to pop music. Game publishers often partner with musical artists to introduce fresh live-service content.
The in-game event will be available July 1 and the album edition arrives June 26. Blizzard will release further details on how to obtain the themed rewards and the mechanics of the story expansion ahead of the event launch.
