NAVI beats G2 2-0 to gain 83 VRS points in Bucharest

NAVI beat G2 2-0 at PGL Masters Bucharest, winning Nuke 13-11 and Dust2 22-19 to gain 83 VRS points and move 10 places in the rankings.

Natus Vincere entered PGL Masters Bucharest ranked 33rd in the Valve Regional Standings. The win over G2 added 83 points and moved NAVI up 10 places, with the team projected to sit just inside the invitation places for the PGL Major Singapore.

NAVI will face FURIA in the second round on Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. local time. NAVI entered the event as the lower seed and must win to continue through the group stage.

The series followed an unusual map veto. G2 removed Cache to bring Nuke into its map pool for the first time in more than a year. Dust2 had not been played by NAVI since the previous season, leaving both teams with limited recent experience on their selected maps.

G2 started Nuke 0-4 and Dust2 0-3. It recovered on Nuke and stayed within reach, but NAVI closed the map 13-11.

Dust2 went to three overtime periods before NAVI won 22-19. Nemanja Kovač, known as huNter-, and Nikita Martynenko, known as HeavyGod, led G2’s resistance. Aleksi Virolainen led NAVI with a 1.28 rating, while Ihor Zhdanov posted a 1.25 rating and a series-best 54-34 kill record.

For G2, huNter- finished with a 1.10 rating and 48-46 kills. HeavyGod recorded a 1.02 rating and 43-43 kills. Guy Iluz, Artem Moroz and Matúš Šimko also finished with positive kill totals, but G2 lost the deciding rounds.

NAVI has registered for HyperX Retake Season 13. The tournament schedule overlaps with PGL Masters Bucharest and IEM Beijing.
