Riot extends 2XKO community tournament support to 2027

Riot Games will support approved 2XKO community tournaments through 2027, despite plans to end active development and official content updates for the fighting game at the end of 2026.

Riot Games will extend its start.gg Community Events Support programme for 2XKO through the end of 2027. Active development, official community initiatives and character releases for the tag-team fighting game are scheduled to end at the close of 2026.

The programme will support approved local and online tournaments run by independent organisers. Players who link their Riot Games and start.gg accounts can receive cosmetic titles, avatar outfits and in-game credits for competing in eligible events.

Riot confirmed that 2XKO’s servers will remain online after development and official content updates end. The company will not provide direct financial grants or broadcast production funding for the tournaments during the extended support period.

The decision follows Riot’s disclosure that 2XKO’s operating expenses were substantially higher than its revenue. Player engagement remained flat despite major content updates.

Riot reviewed options including changes to the game’s patch schedule and a smaller live-service team. The company chose to complete the planned 2026 content pipeline before ending active development.

Ben Goldhaber, 2XKO’s esports product lead, confirmed that internal developer support and official content cycles will end at the close of 2026. Riot will continue the start.gg rewards system throughout 2027, while independent organisers and the fighting game community run competitive events.
