FURIA’s molodoy may need surgery for eye problems

FURIA AWPer Danil “molodoy” Golubenko may need eye surgery after problems that began in August. The 21-year-old reassured fans that he has time to address the issue.

FURIA AWPer Danil “molodoy” Golubenko revealed the update on Telegram on Oct. 18, after FURIA defeated BETBOOM 3-2 in the Thunderpick World Championship 2026 grand final. The win gave FURIA its second consecutive title at the event.

“About my eye, I see a lot of comments,” molodoy wrote. “I still have some minor issues. I’ll most likely undergo surgery. There’s nothing to worry about. I’ll have time for it. Don’t worry, everything is fine and will be fine.”

The Kazakh player’s eye problems began shortly before the Esports World Cup 2026 in August. He posted a photo of a swollen, red eyelid and has worn glasses during competitions since then. In September, he reported pressure in both eyes and difficulty looking directly at bright light for long periods.

FURIA’s tournament schedule made it difficult for him to undergo a medical evaluation. In early October, molodoy described the condition as painful and said it had affected his ability to concentrate during matches. He also reported that the issue had improved significantly and that he was still taking medication.

His latest update indicates that the problem has not been fully resolved. He has not announced a date for possible surgery or said that he will miss any upcoming events.

FURIA is scheduled to compete at PGL Masters Bucharest 2026 in Romania from Oct. 24 to 31. The 16-team tournament has a $1.25 million prize pool. Molodoy plans to rest for several days before the event.
