Level Up: Esports World Cup Docuseries Returns to Prime Video
Level Up, a five-episode docuseries about the 2025 Esports World Cup in Riyadh, premieres globally on Prime Video on June 26, 2026.
Level Up returns to Prime Video for a five-episode second season, with all episodes available globally on June 26, 2026. The series covers competitors and events at the 2025 Esports World Cup in Riyadh, which offered a $70 million total prize pool. Emmy-winning director R.J. Cutler led the production, which was made by This Machine, part of Sony Pictures Television.
The series mixes on-site coverage from Riyadh with at-home footage filmed in the United Kingdom, the United States and Indonesia. It follows individual athletes and teams as they prepare for and compete in international matches.
Featured storylines track Jake “Boaster” Howlett of Fnatic’s VALORANT roster, Vivi “Vivian” Indrawaty of Team Vitality’s Mobile Legends team, and chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen representing Team Liquid. Episodes include scenes of matches, player routines, family interactions and commercial and entertainment activations around the tournament.
The 2025 event included public appearances by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and musician Post Malone. Organizers say the series aims to give mainstream viewers a behind-the-scenes view of professional gaming at a major international event.
Ralf Reichert, chief executive of the Esports Foundation, stated, “The documentary takes you closer to the people inside those moments: their pressure, their ambition, their families and the stories that make esports meaningful to a new generation.” Director R.J. Cutler stated the season continues to chronicle the lives, dreams and sacrifices of the players featured.
Reports indicate the series will not continue under the same production arrangement with This Machine for a third season. The Esports Foundation is assembling a different production framework but has not confirmed whether that effort will be a direct continuation of Level Up or a separate media project.
The Esports World Cup is scheduled to move to Paris for its next physical tournament, running from July 6 to August 23, 2026. Organizers expect more than 2,000 players and a $75 million total prize pool for the 2026 edition.
