HooXi: Astralis missed calls in Cologne, collapsed on Overpass
Astralis failed to convert off-server plans into in-game action in Cologne, losing to 9z, TYLOO and paiN and conceding 12 straight rounds on Overpass.
Astralis exited the Major in Cologne after consecutive losses to 9z and TYLOO in best-of-one matches, followed by a series-opening defeat to paiN and a 0-12 loss on their chosen map, Overpass. The result ended the team’s run at the event.
Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen said the team repeatedly identified correct strategies while reviewing rounds off-server but could not execute those plans during matches. He described the tournament as a struggle in which opponents often took easy rounds while Astralis had to fight for each one.
The team lost Nuke in the series against paiN and then surrendered the first half on Overpass without winning a round. HooXi attributed failures to a mix of poor individual reads and hesitation in collective play, noting rounds frequently broke down after a single kill.
On Astralis’ CT play, particularly on Nuke, HooXi pointed to what he called amateur decisions and an inability to perform the correct actions in the moment despite understanding them in discussions outside the game. He described his own position on Nuke as isolated, limiting his view and making it hard to direct teammates from that spot.
A broadcast clip showed HooXi urging teammates to take more responsibility mid-round. He said personal accountability had diminished and that when no initiative came from others he felt forced to call plays without a full picture. “It’s always easier to make a decision from what you see than what you hear,” he added.
HooXi expressed confusion over the T-side collapse on Overpass, saying he was “still in shock” at going 12-0 down. He mentioned several rounds where the team had favorable situations but froze and did not take initiative, allowing opponents to close out rounds with little resistance.
The loss affects Astralis’ standing in the VRS ranking system and their planning for the next season. HooXi said he does not focus on the VRS ladder and prefers to ignore public ranking debates when assessing performance.
Astralis will enter a period of evaluation to address the execution and communication issues highlighted by HooXi before their next events.
