G2 eliminated Legacy 2-0 at the IEM Cologne Major in Cologne. The European side won in straight maps after Legacy entered the match with health issues and without coach Alan “adrrr” Riveros, who was removed from the event for a communication infraction.
Legacy advanced to the G2 series after defeating PARIVISION, but several players reported sickness before the best-of-three. Tournament officials upheld a communication violation and barred Riveros from the remainder of Cologne, denying the team in-person coaching for the match.
The opening map on Dust2 set the tone when Legacy surrendered a 4v2 early and failed to regain momentum. G2 sustained pressure through coordinated retakes and several clutch rounds, producing winning sequences on both maps.
Statistical leaders were on G2. Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač finished 30-17 with an 84.5 average damage per round (ADR) and a 1.38 rating. Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko went 26-20 with an 80.6 ADR and a 1.30 rating. Álvaro “SunPayus” García recorded 21-17 and a 1.22 rating. Guy “NertZ” Iluz and Matúš “MATYS” Šimko each posted positive impact metrics and KAST percentages above 67 percent. For Legacy, Eduardo “dumau” Wolkmer led the team at 20-27 with a 71.7 ADR and a 0.99 rating. Guilherme “saadzin” Pacheco, Vinicius “n1ssim” Pereira, Bruno “latto” Rebelatto and Andrei “arT” Piovezan recorded lower ratings across the series.
In a post-game interview, Eduardo “dumau” Wolkmer reflected: “Stage 2 was not enough in the BO1s but the BO3s were good. We had high expectations for Stage 3, but we got sick, it affected us, we didn’t play our best. We were off, everybody, it’s a result we deserved.” He noted the season had positives while the Major remained the team’s primary objective.
Legacy will take a summer break after the Stage 1 exit at Cologne. G2 will play one more match in Cologne to determine whether they finish above the 9-11th place results they recorded at the Budapest and Austin Majors.
