FURIA Transfers Women’s CS2 Roster to Valorant
Brazilian esports club FURIA has moved its women’s Counter-Strike 2 roster to Valorant to access more regular tournaments and clearer development paths.
FURIA confirmed it has transferred its women’s Counter-Strike 2 roster to Riot Games’ Valorant, ending the team’s direct participation in women’s CS2 events.
The organization said the change follows an internal review of competitive opportunities and sponsorship prospects and aims to place the players in a competition structure with more regular tournaments and clearer development pathways.
Women’s CS2 events have become less frequent in recent seasons. Organizers and team managers have reported a shrinking calendar for standalone women’s CS2 competitions and limited developer-backed programming for female-focused events.
Riot runs women-focused programs, including Game Changers, which provide scheduled events and regional competitions for female and marginalized-gender players. Valve, the developer of CS2, has not launched a comparable long-running, developer-backed circuit for women, leaving event organization largely to independent and regional promoters.
The roster change alters players’ competitive calendars, practice routines and sponsorship arrangements. Players switching titles must adapt to different game mechanics, team roles and coaching structures and enter Valorant’s competitive ladder.
Teams and national federations identified talent development and retention as immediate concerns. Without regular high-level events, emerging players face longer pathways to professional income and international competition. Some regional organizers report difficulty filling brackets, and players and staff report fewer full-time contracts and smaller prize pools compared with other titles.
The transfer reduces the number of established organizations competing in women’s CS2. Riot’s dedicated programs created a visible circuit of scheduled events and regional competitions, while women’s Counter-Strike events have largely depended on independent promoters with limited sustained developer involvement.
