FlameZ: Donk’s Mirage display knocks Vitality out in Paris
Team Vitality lost 2-1 to Spirit in the Esports World Cup quarter-finals in Paris after Danil “donk” Kryshkovets dominated Mirage, captain Shahar “flameZ” Shushan said.
Team Vitality were eliminated from the Esports World Cup in Paris after a 2-1 quarter-final defeat to Spirit, leaving the club with a 5-8th finish. Danil “donk” Kryshkovets produced a standout performance on Mirage that swung the series in Spirit’s favour.
The series opened on Anubis, where Vitality’s defence found form too late. Vitality won a close Nuke, but Mirage proved decisive as donk repeatedly won entry duels and influenced multiple rounds across the map. Vitality entered the match with a six-match winning streak against Spirit and had not lost to them since October 2024.
Captain Shahar “flameZ” Shushan reflected on individual impact: “I think sometimes you have to respect individual brilliance. Today donk on Mirage took the show.” He added that Spirit’s AWP play on the other site compounded Vitality’s difficulties on Mirage.
FlameZ described Anubis as a map where Vitality “clicked into things on CT a bit too late” despite good practice. On Nuke he said the team “messed up a lot of rounds” but still won. He pointed to several rounds on Mirage in which Vitality reached favourable positions-including one where Spirit stacked B and Vitality took A site-but failed to convert those situations due to poor execution.
FlameZ acknowledged a broader downturn in recent events, marking the fourth tournament in a row where Vitality missed the top four. He referenced a planned break in Atlanta and a narrow Major match against Falcons that could have altered recent results. He also noted a lack of official LAN matches before the World Cup and a loss to Liquid at a prior event as factors that left the team short of official preparation.
Looking ahead, Vitality will travel to BLAST Porto with Justin “jL” Bittencourt standing in while regular player mezii steps away for the birth of his child. FlameZ said jL brings positive energy and that the short-term change may help the team focus on basic execution rather than deeper tactical variations. Coach Rémi “XTQZZZ” and teammate William are expected to provide remote feedback during the event.
FlameZ rejected long-term alarm, stating, “I don’t worry. I trust this roster.” Vitality will compete at BLAST Porto aiming to regain consistency on the international circuit.
