FIA opens tender for global esports championship partners

The FIA has opened a public call for proposals to appoint commercial promoters and organisers for FIA‑sanctioned global esports championships. Bids due 17 August 2026.

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile has launched a public call for proposals to appoint commercial promoters and organisers for FIA‑sanctioned global esports championships. Interested operators must submit formal bids by 17 August 2026. The tender seeks long‑term partners to run regulated sim racing and digital motorsport series under the FIA name.

Bidders are required to present full championship concepts that detail tournament format, geographic reach, technical specifications for on‑site live finals and a multi‑season commercial strategy. Proposals should explain how regional qualifiers will be staged, how technical standards and integrity will be enforced, how live finals will be delivered and how the series will generate sustainable commercial returns.

The tender follows the FIA’s formal recognition of esports as a sporting discipline in 2023 and a series of pilot projects. The federation tested the regulatory framework in 2025 with the FIA MENA Esports Championship, the first virtual tournament sanctioned under the International Sporting Code and Appendix E. In 2025 the FIA also included simulated events in the FIA Karting World Championship and launched the FIA Esports Global Rally Tour on the Assetto Corsa Rally platform. The rally tour attracted more than 6,000 drivers from 159 countries and is scheduled to hold its live multi‑regional final at the FIA Awards in Shanghai in December.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA, called the procurement “an important milestone in the development of the FIA’s Esports strategy as we identify opportunities that will support sustainable growth and attract new audiences and competitors.” Niroshan Pereira, president of the FIA Esports Commission, described the call as “a transparent and ambitious framework that will support the sustainable growth of competitive esports under the FIA umbrella while fostering collaboration across the wider esports ecosystem.”

Submitted bids will be evaluated on criteria including sporting format credibility, technical readiness for live events, geographic reach and commercial viability. The call for proposals was issued ahead of Global Esports Industry Week, running 18‑21 June 2026 alongside IEM Cologne, where industry stakeholders will meet to discuss esports business opportunities.
