Factorio 2.1: Wube ends active development, shifts to support
Wube will release Factorio Update 2.1 as the final major content update, with a closed beta and experimental build before moving to bug fixes, platform compatibility and mod support.
Wube Software announced that Factorio Update 2.1 will be the game’s final major content update. The studio plans a closed beta in the coming weeks, followed by an experimental 2.1 build in late June and a standard bug-fix release in July. After those releases, Wube will move the project into a maintenance phase focused on technical support.
Wube reported it is satisfied with the current design, balance and progression systems in both the base game and the Space Age expansion. As a result, Update 2.1 will not introduce sweeping gameplay changes or large amounts of new content; the release is intended as a polish and stability update for existing systems.
The experimental 2.1 build will remain available through the summer to give mod creators time to update their projects and ensure compatibility. The team also plans a summer break following the July update.
Under the maintenance model, Wube will concentrate on bug fixes, performance improvements, platform compatibility and support for the modding ecosystem. The studio confirmed that work has already started on new projects beyond Factorio.
Factorio entered Steam Early Access in February 2016 and reached full release in August 2020. The title established a strong player and modding community focused on factory automation. Update 2.1 will be the last substantial content push before Wube focuses on upkeep and support for that community.
