Expand Subnautica 2 Inventory With Lockers and Biobeds
Portable Lockers add 15 inventory slots and appear early (one in a cave beneath the starting Lifepod). Biobeds in Colonist Bunkers permanently increase a player’s inventory.
Portable Lockers provide 15 extra inventory slots and can be found very early in Subnautica 2, including one in a cave beneath the starting Lifepod. Biobeds inside Colonist Bunkers permanently increase a player’s base inventory. Both options let players carry more materials and stay away from the Lifepod longer during early exploration.
Portable Lockers can be held or placed down. While holding a locker prevents use of tools, players commonly carry one during initial resource runs to avoid frequent trips back to base. Later in the game, Portable Lockers can be attached to vehicles to support deeper dives and to transport materials between the Lifepod and a developing base.
Biobeds are located inside Colonist Bunkers and permanently expand the character’s inventory size. Colonist Bunkers are usually tucked in caves and are often marked by underwater lights; some NOA black box waypoints lead directly to these sites. Discovering a Biobed changes the player’s base inventory rather than providing a temporary container.
After unlocking the Habitat Tool, players can build Wall Lockers and Floor Lockers as part of base construction. Wall Lockers are cheaper and faster to craft, while Floor Lockers provide larger capacity. Portable Lockers remain useful during base setup for moving items between the Lifepod, temporary storage and the permanent base.
Material handling affects inventory use. Metal Salvage occupies one slot unprocessed but becomes several Titanium pieces when converted, which take up more space. Players often leave Salvage intact until Titanium is needed. The Blueprints menu lets players pin recipes so required components appear on-screen, helping to target specific materials for collection.
The hot bar at the bottom of the screen functions as an extra five-slot extension when populated with tools or consumables. Placing water or emergency consumables there while leaving bulky tools like the Habitat Builder at base preserves inventory space for raw materials intended for crafting or building.
Locating Biobeds and Portable Lockers is a common early priority. Searching nearby caverns and checking NOA waypoints can reveal Colonist Bunkers and the early Portable Locker under the Lifepod. Combining a permanent inventory increase from a Biobed with base storage units and mobile Portable Lockers lets players carry and move larger amounts of materials during exploration and construction.
