EMU, Citadel Gaming partner to train student esports creators
Eastern Michigan University Esports and Citadel Gaming will give 10–15 students annually internships and paid media roles supporting videography, design, 3D animation, editing and campus events.
Eastern Michigan University Esports has formed a partnership with Citadel Gaming to provide hands-on industry experience to students. The agreement targets roughly 10 to 15 students each year for internships and paid creative roles tied to esports media and event support on EMU’s campus in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Under the arrangement, Citadel Gaming will work with EMU Esports student staff to review and refine workflows, collaborate on creative projects, and place students in entry-level professional assignments. Assignments are expected to cover videography, graphic design, 3D animation, video editing and other digital media disciplines.
Most of the work produced through the partnership will be integrated into EMU Esports’ existing paid student positions. Additional project-based opportunities may be opened to the broader student body. Citadel will also assist with planning, marketing and execution of selected campus esports events and take part in community activities such as tournaments, watch parties and appearances by professional players and staff.
Officials said the partnership aims to help students build portfolios and expand industry contacts in Michigan’s esports sector. Zach Lewis, coordinator of Esports at Eastern Michigan University, called the partnership “a game-changer for our students and our program,” adding it creates a direct pipeline between collegiate esports and the professional industry.
Charlie Harrison, director of operations at Citadel Gaming, described the collaboration as a chance for EMU students to work alongside Citadel’s staff on content and operations and to develop practical experience that employers seek.
Partners plan to begin integrating students into projects and event support soon after the announcement. Program details and application information will be shared with EMU Esports staff and the student body.
