Germany’s Olympic Body Launches DOSB E-Sports gGmbH

DOSB will launch DOSB E-Sports gGmbH on June 1, 2026 to coordinate national esports activities and support German teams at selected international competitions.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will launch DOSB E-Sports gGmbH on June 1, 2026. The independent company will coordinate national esports activities and support German teams in selected international nation competitions. The entity will act as a platform for cooperation between organized sport and the esports and gaming ecosystem across Germany.

In its initial phase, DOSB E-Sports gGmbH will focus on supporting and coordinating national teams that take part in nation-based international esports events. The organization plans to work with partners from esports, gaming, traditional sport, politics and civil society to build national projects that combine performance, social values and community engagement.

Longer-term priorities include developing sustainable performance and athlete support systems with industry and club partners, strengthening links between organized sport and gaming communities, and creating social projects tied to sport and digital culture. The confederation said the new platform is meant to coordinate action at the national level rather than replace existing esports organizations or structures in Germany.

Leon Ries, DOSB board member for youth, noted, “E-sports and gaming are a natural part of everyday life for millions of young people. As organized sport, we see this as an opportunity to make movement, performance, community and values visible in the digital space and to take responsibility for positive developments together with existing stakeholders.” Otto Fricke, chairman of the DOSB executive board, added that the company aims to connect traditional sport with digital lifestyles and keep sport socially relevant for younger generations.

Earlier this year, Germany’s federal government recognized certain esports activities as eligible for non-profit status within club sports. DOSB indicated the new company will build on the confederation’s existing position on esports and coordinate action with its member organizations under the updated legal framework.

DOSB E-Sports gGmbH will operate in Germany and engage esports teams, game developers, clubs, policymakers and business partners. The organization plans a gradual rollout, starting with representation at selected international competitions and expanding into support services and community projects.

The launch comes ahead of a busy June esports calendar in Germany, including an expanded Global Esports Industry Week and the Major-status IEM Cologne Counter-Strike tournament from June 18-21 in Cologne. DOSB pointed to the timing as an opportunity to coordinate national efforts and showcase German teams on the international stage.

The confederation said it will continue to consult with member organizations and external stakeholders as DOSB E-Sports gGmbH develops its programs and partnerships.
