coolio shocked by G2 benching SunPayus: “Still so good”
FUT’s coolio called G2’s decision to bench SunPayus surprising after the AWPer helped FUT beat TYLOO in his debut at PGL Masters Bucharest.
FUT’s András “coolio” Fercsák was surprised that G2 benched Álvaro “SunPayus” García after the Spanish AWPer joined FUT for PGL Masters Bucharest.
SunPayus helped FUT sweep TYLOO in the opening series and led the team with a 1.47 rating. FUT signed him to replace Guy “cmtry” Trachtman after practicing with him for more than a month, including at a bootcamp.
“I was also shocked that they benched him in G2 because I feel like he’s still so good a player,” coolio said.
Coolio described SunPayus as easy to work with and said the 26-year-old had adapted quickly to the team. SunPayus wanted to learn FUT’s system instead of immediately changing how the team played, according to the player.
“He’s really easy to work with, funny guy, bringing the moods up,” coolio said.
The addition has given FUT more experience in the middle of rounds, where players decide whether to use utility, slow the pace or speed up an attack. Coolio explained that the team had lacked that control while Krabeni played as a lurker.
“The difference is that he has really good experience and he is able to control the mid round, and we were really lacking a guy like that,” he said. “He is really good at the AWP. Like, when we put him in some angle, we know he will get the kills.”
Coolio also compared SunPayus with cmtry’s final period on the roster. He described cmtry as a player who had lost confidence and missed shots he would normally hit, which affected FUT’s CT sides. SunPayus’ early kills can give the team a five-versus-four advantage, making rounds easier to win, he added.
FUT started its series against TYLOO with a 7-1 deficit on Nuke after winning the opening pistol round. Coolio attributed the slow start to TYLOO’s style, which he described as different from that of European teams. FUT recovered to win the map and complete the series sweep.
FUT had practiced with SunPayus since the end of BLAST Porto and did not set a specific result target for its first tournament with him. The team plans to test strategies from practice in official matches before deciding which parts of its approach work.
Coolio said FUT can reach the tournament’s top eight, while noting that the new lineup has not yet faced the event’s highest-ranked teams. “We still have the style of FUT, we don’t want to change fully,” he said. “But yeah, if we can show what we did in practice, I have high hopes.”
FUT is scheduled to compete in Hong Kong after PGL Masters Bucharest before preparing for the Major.
