CD Projekt Red: Big Witcher DLCs Unlikely During 3‑Game Plan
CD Projekt Red says large story expansions will likely be rare as it aims to release three Witcher games in six years, co‑CEO Michał Nowakowski told investors on an earnings call.
CD Projekt Red told investors on a recent earnings call that major downloadable expansions for upcoming Witcher titles will likely be rare because the studio plans to release three mainline Witcher games within six years.
On the call, Nowakowski told investors: ‘The specific goal is to release three Witcher games within a six‑year period. To be completely honest, it would be difficult for us to fit major expansions into the upcoming trilogy. That’s where we stand on the matter right now.’
The company has confirmed at least 499 developers are working on The Witcher 4. The development team includes a senior developer who previously contributed to Baldur’s Gate 3.
CD Projekt Red is also developing Project Hadar, described by executives as a new original franchise currently in its concept phase. Company officials have said both the Witcher trilogy and Project Hadar will demand substantial development resources.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt previously received several story expansions that added new locations, quests and gameplay. Studio officials said they will prioritize the core releases and allocate resources to deliver three full games within the planned six‑year window.
Officials did not rule out smaller updates, content patches or other post‑launch support, but they indicated the scale and frequency of large story expansions will likely be limited while the trilogy is in active development.
