Astralis advance to BLAST Rivals Dallas playoffs, eye Major
Astralis beat FUT to reach the BLAST Rivals Dallas playoffs; IGL Rasmus ‘HooXi’ Nielsen said the team has progressed and will use the lead-up to the Major for arena experience.
Astralis advanced to the BLAST Rivals Dallas playoffs after defeating FUT in the Group A lower-bracket final. The team will play a quarter-final at Dickies Arena on Friday.
The win followed an opening loss to G2. Rasmus ‘HooXi’ Nielsen noted Astralis had given away key rounds against G2, a result that underlined the gap to top-tier opponents. Against FUT, Astralis entered as favorites while FUT used a coach as a stand-in, a situation Nielsen said made the match more difficult for their opponents.
Nielsen described Astralis as “the top of tier two” and pointed out that many leading teams are scaling back or testing approaches while preparing for the Major. He suggested that could create an opening for Astralis but emphasized the squad will focus on its own play rather than opponents’ schedules.
He stressed the importance of in-match experience and summed up the team’s approach as learning by doing. Nielsen identified players including ryu, phzy and Staehr as likely to benefit from playing on the Dickies Arena stage, noting that communication and leadership feel different in front of a live crowd than in practice.
Reflecting on Astralis’ recent runner-up finish in Bucharest, Nielsen said the result did not increase confidence because the team failed to meet its own standards. He added two weeks of practice afterward did not go well and that confidence will depend on whether the team feels it performed at a high level, even in losses.
Looking ahead to the quarter-final, Nielsen said Astralis must play at their best to progress despite some top teams resting or experimenting before the Major. After the win over FUT he laughed that it “always feels good to beat FUT.”
