Argentinian AWPer try gets first shot at tier-1 with Legacy
After years away from regular top-level play, Santino “try” Rigal says joining Legacy gives him his first real chance to prove himself at tier-1 competition.
Argentinian AWPer Santino “try” Rigal joined Legacy and says the move gives him his first sustained opportunity at tier-1 competition after several difficult years. He averaged a 1.17 rating as Legacy advanced from the Esports World Cup group stage, recording wins over Ninjas in Pyjamas and MIBR and a loss to FaZe. The result advances Legacy to the Big Event playoffs; it is try’s first appearance at that level since ESL Pro League 20.
Try made his debut for Legacy at the Esports World Cup in France, taking over the AWP role from Guilherme “saadzin” Pacheco. The team progressed from the group despite the defeat to FaZe, and try’s performances contributed to the advancement.
Earlier in his career try left Imperial and joined Passion UA this year; that project ended within months. He had additional offers from Brazilian teams and international projects before selecting Legacy. He cited prior connections with teammates latto and dumau from 00NATION and reported being impressed by new teammates arT and n1ssim.
Try identified winning an international title as a major objective. Legacy defended its CS Asia Championship title three months ago by beating Falcons in the final; Falcons later won IEM Cologne Major. Legacy is currently ranked eighth in the global VRS standings.
Argentina is set to host its first Major in Buenos Aires in less than a year. Try described his reaction to the announcement as excitement and expressed hope that Legacy can reach the playoffs in front of a home crowd. He also thanked FiReSPORTS for organising the event.
Commenting after the match against MIBR, try said, “I’m very happy. It’s been a really tough few years for me, playing a tier-1 event here and there but never consistently, never a full season. This is the first team where I’ll have the chance to prove myself in tier-1.” He added that his level is improving and that he does not feel at his peak yet. On his new teammates he praised arT as “an excellent captain” and said he had been surprised by the level of arT and n1ssim.
Legacy will aim to convert its group-stage form into deeper runs at upcoming Big Events. Try’s immediate focus is delivering consistent AWP performances for Legacy as the team prepares for events ahead of the Buenos Aires Major.
