Battlefield 6 adds Top Gun, Wake Island and free trial

Battlefield 6 launches a Top Gun crossover on Aug. 18 with Wake Island, two-seat jets, Carrier Strike and Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep. Free REDSEC trial runs Aug. 18–25; progress carries over.

DICE will launch a Top Gun crossover for Battlefield 6 on Aug. 18. The update adds the Wake Island map, introduces two-seat fighter jets and two jet-focused modes called Carrier Strike and Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep. A free trial of the game’s REDSEC battle royale mode will run Aug. 18–25. Any progress or items unlocked during the trial will be saved to players’ accounts and carried over if they buy the full game.

The update adds characters from the Top Gun franchise to Battlefield 6, including Lieutenant Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), Lieutenant Robert “Bob” Floyd (Lewis Pullman) and Admiral Solomon “Warlock” Bates (Charles Parnell). Wake Island will join the game’s map rotation alongside existing locations.

Two-seat fighter jets allow two players to operate a single aircraft, with one player piloting and a second using the rear station. Carrier Strike and Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep emphasize air-to-air and carrier-based engagements, with objectives and team roles focused on fighter operations.

Players who want to try the update must download REDSEC to access the free trial between Aug. 18 and Aug. 25. The crossover is part of the game’s seasonal content updates that expand the map pool, vehicle roster and playable characters.
