Twitch launches AI text recaps for live streams
At TwitchCon Europe 2026 in Rotterdam, Twitch introduced an AI tool that creates short text summaries of live broadcasts so viewers can catch up before joining.
Twitch introduced an AI-powered recap tool at TwitchCon Europe 2026 in Rotterdam on May 30 that creates short text summaries of earlier portions of live broadcasts. The summaries are designed to give viewers the context they missed before jumping into a stream.
The feature was revealed during the conference opening ceremony hosted by Mary Kish and Twitch CEO Dan Clancy. Twitch representatives noted the recaps are generated by artificial intelligence and said the company will continue to experiment with how they are presented and how long they are as the feature is tested with users.
Alongside the recap tool, Twitch announced several platform updates. Members of the Partner and Affiliate programs will be able to stream at 2K resolution. The mobile app will support dual-format vertical video, and Twitch will roll out automatic highlight generation that uses signals from chat activity and shifts in a streamer’s vocal tone to identify notable moments.
Twitch described the text recaps as a way for viewers to quickly understand what led to a current moment in a stream without watching earlier segments. The company has not given a firm release date for the recap feature and said it will refine summary length and presentation based on user feedback during testing.
Organizers confirmed TwitchCon Europe will return in 2027 in Berlin on May 22–23 and highlighted the product announcements during the Rotterdam ceremony.
Twitch has previously added features that use automation and machine learning, including automated highlights and adaptive streaming settings, to help surface content and reduce friction for viewers.
