Sony tests PS5 beta widget showing weekly player counts
Sony is testing a PS5 beta widget that shows weekly active player counts for the top 10 games in a user’s country and a Trending Now view with week-over-week spikes.
Sony Interactive Entertainment is testing a PS5 widget that displays weekly active player counts for the top 10 games in a user’s country and a separate Trending Now view that highlights short-term jumps in playtime.
The Community Activity (Beta) widget appears in the PS5 Welcome Hub for selected beta participants and shows which titles are being played most in a player’s region.
The Top 10 view lists the current week’s most-played games in the user’s country and surfaces weekly active player numbers on the console home screen.
The Trending Now view focuses on short-term spikes. It highlights games and specific modes that have experienced sizable increases in activity compared with the previous week and breaks out metrics such as percentage jumps in total playtime. The Trending Now list does not display total weekly player counts for the entries it highlights.
A pop-up shown to beta users reads: “Available for a limited time. The Community Activity (Beta) widget shows which games are being played the most by players in your country. Select [Top 10] to see this week’s most popular games. Select [Trending Now] to show which games and modes are surging in popularity right now.”
Multiple beta participants report receiving an update that adds the Player Count Widget to the Welcome Hub. Sony has limited the feature to the PS5 beta program and has not given a timetable for a broader release.
The Trending Now view tends to surface indie titles that gain traction through viral moments or streamers, games that see renewed interest after major patches or DLC, and older titles that receive attention due to sales or pop-culture exposure.
The widget groups data by country and offers both a popularity ranking and a short-term trend view so players can see regional activity without leaving the console interface.
