NIP Group trims Swedish support after $47.5M Abu Dhabi deal

NIP Group cut Swedish back-office and administrative roles after signing a five-year, $47.5 million UAE agreement and moving central business functions to Abu Dhabi; esports rosters stay abroad.

Ninjas in Pyjamas Group eliminated several back-office and administrative positions in Sweden after completing an internal reorganization that began about two months earlier. The changes follow a five-year agreement with the UAE government valued at about $47.5 million and a transfer of central business functions to Abu Dhabi.

The layoffs affected only support and internal administrative roles; roster and coaching positions were not included. NIP confirmed its competitive esports teams will remain based at their current international locations and will not be required to relocate to the UAE.

Under the plan, most central operations will move from Stockholm to Abu Dhabi. The Stockholm office will continue to operate in a reduced capacity as a local venue for team bootcamps and training rather than serving as the company’s primary headquarters.

NIP described the workforce changes as part of a strategic realignment tied to the five-year UAE agreement. Company officials say the reorganization aligns resources with the shifted core business functions.

Founded in Sweden, Ninjas in Pyjamas runs multiple international esports rosters. The company began an internal review roughly two months ago that led to the current reorganization.
