Natus Vincere’s iM: Internal errors hinder NAVI at IEM Atlanta
Mihai “iM” Ivan said small mistakes cost Natus Vincere control after 2-0 and 2-1 wins that advanced NAVI to the IEM Atlanta playoffs.
Natus Vincere midfielder Mihai “iM” Ivan pointed to internal errors after NAVI beat Passion UA 2-0 on May 11 and edged GamerLegion 2-1 on May 12 to reach the IEM Atlanta playoff bracket.
Ivan described the GamerLegion series as close and nervy. NAVI lost the first map, Ancient, recovered on Inferno and narrowly closed out Mirage. He identified overpeeks and mid-round misplays as the main reasons for the Ancient loss and said small mistakes were decisive. “You just need to be on point; you cannot afford any small mistakes, any overpeeks,” he said.
The wins keep NAVI alive in Atlanta, but Ivan highlighted a remaining hurdle in Vitality. NAVI have not won a map against Vitality across eight maps this year, a run Ivan called unusual. He recalled an 11-1 Nuke scoreline that still did not produce a map victory and said he expects the trend to break at some point. “I think at one point we will win a map against them,” he added.
Vitality dropped to the lower bracket after a loss to BetBoom. Ivan said that result creates an opportunity for teams aiming for the title and that NAVI must exploit any weakness. He also noted the increased frequency of upsets this season and linked it to teams preparing targeted anti-strategies during demo and preparation windows.
NAVI’s next opponent will be the winner of Astralis versus Legacy for a spot in the semi-finals. Ivan declined to favor one team and returned the focus to NAVI’s consistency, calling his own squad the biggest challenge to overcome.
Ivan also flagged two tactical issues exposed by GamerLegion: handling rapid, varied attacks and keeping composure when the score becomes stressful. He described GamerLegion’s approach as quick A hits, B fakes and middle rushes, which sometimes unsettled NAVI but did not prevent the eventual comeback.
The wins over Passion UA and GamerLegion confirmed NAVI’s place in the playoff rounds in Atlanta; Ivan’s comments centered on correcting internal errors to improve the team’s chances later in the event.
