MOUZ ends Spirit’s 668-day Swiss streak, clinches EPL spot
MOUZ beat Spirit 2-0 at ESL Pro League Season 24, ending Spirit’s 668-day, 32-match Swiss group-stage winning run and securing the event’s first playoff berth.
MOUZ defeated Spirit 2-0 at ESL Pro League Season 24 to claim the tournament’s first guaranteed playoff spot and end Spirit’s 668-day, 32-match Swiss group-stage winning streak. The match was played on Dust2 and Mirage.
On Dust2, Spirit focused attacks on the B site early but failed to break MOUZ’s defense. Lotan ‘Spinx’ Giladi and Oldřich ‘PR’ Nový combined for multiple key holds that neutralized Spirit’s entries. Spirit attempted a shift to A but Ádám ‘torzsi’ Torzsás and Adrian ‘xelex’ Vincze closed that avenue. Danil ‘donk’ Kryshkovets recorded his worst-rated Dust2 showing and struggled to influence rounds, while Boris ‘magixx’ Vorobiev posted his poorest LAN map performance, contributing to Spirit’s difficulties on their map pick.
On Mirage, MOUZ grabbed momentum early as xelex and Dorian ‘xertioN’ Berman produced openers and clutch plays to build a 12-6 lead. Myroslav ‘zont1x’ Plakhotia provided a response for Spirit and donk finished the first half with two quad-kills, then added multi-kills after the swap. Spirit narrowed the gap but MOUZ held on to win Mirage 13-11 and seal the series.
Individual match numbers show MOUZ’s Adrian ‘xelex’ Vincze and Spinx each reaching 40 kills, Dorian ‘xertioN’ Berman finishing with 32 and torzsi with 30. Spirit’s top totals included Dmitry ‘sh1ro’ Sokolov with 29 kills and donk with 26; magixx ended with 18. Statistical marks from the series highlighted xelex and Spinx as MOUZ’s most impactful players and noted underperformance from several Spirit members on Dust2.
MOUZ coach Dennis ‘sycrone’ Nielsen, laughing during the team’s final timeout, remarked ‘finally we have a fight’ as Spirit mounted late pressure on Mirage.
The result was MOUZ’s second win over Spirit in six meetings this year and avenged their loss to Spirit in the BLAST Open Porto final. Spirit’s 32-win Swiss streak began with their opener against FURIA at the Perfect World Shanghai Major 668 days earlier. MOUZ advance to the playoff stage; Spirit will return to group play aiming to restore consistency as the event continues.
