Mauisnake, Striker explain CS2 MVP award decisions
Mauisnake and Milan “Striker” Švejda joined the Come Here panel to explain how MVP and EVP awards are decided and review disputed medals.
Alex “Mauisnake” Ellenberg and Milan “Striker” Švejda joined Come Here hosts Danish “Nohte” Allana and Harry “NER0” Richards to discuss how Counter-Strike MVP and EVP awards are decided and how the medals affect the Top 20 player list.
The panel reviewed the criteria for selecting the most valuable player and exceptional valuable player at tournaments. It also discussed how the process has changed, or remained the same, over time.
The participants examined several decisions event by event. They discussed Danil “donk” Kryshkovets receiving the BLAST Open Porto MVP medal ahead of Dmitry “sh1ro” Sokolov, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač winning the BLAST Bounty Season 1 Finals award over Emil “nota” Moskvitin, and Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut receiving the StarLadder Budapest Major MVP award ahead of Robin “ropz” Kool.
Striker and NER0 explained the tiebreaker process used when candidates have similar results. They also addressed confusion about the statistics referenced in MVP decision articles and described how different metrics are used during the evaluation.
The discussion covered the effect of tournament medals on the HLTV Top 20 rankings. The panel also addressed questions about whether award decisions favor certain players, including Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, and claims that MVP choices are made to add interest to the annual ranking race.
