GOALS 2.0 reworks passing and AI, adds 5v5 Ranked

On Sept. 10, 2026 GOALS 2.0 launched on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, overhauling passing and AI and adding The Trial, 5v5 Ranked and Swaps 2.0.
On Sept. 10, 2026 the developers released GOALS 2.0 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The update overhauls the passing system and artificial intelligence and adds new tournaments, including a 5v5 Ranked mode.
Passing has been reworked to increase player control. Passes are more predictable and responsive. Crossing, first-touch and trapping animations were refined. Lofted passes now travel higher and slower, reducing their previous effectiveness. Defensive play requires better positioning and reading of the game. A new Manual Switch Override makes camera switching favor the player who is pressing the ball. AI behavior has been adjusted for attacking runs, defensive organization and set pieces.
The Trial is a single-player tournament in which the user controls one footballer with four AI teammates through six 5v5 matches against progressively tougher computer opponents. Players receive in-game rewards based on performance. 5v5 Ranked lets five real players each control one character and includes unique match introductions and a dedicated hub that displays 3D player models.
Swaps 2.0 allows clubs to merge footballers, including Originals and Retired players, to obtain higher-tier cards. The update adds a structured Onboarding hub and interactive tutorials that teach movement, sprinting, tackling and shooting.
The update also adds new stadiums and replaces the front end with a fully overhauled 3D interface. Developers applied optimizations aimed at improving stability on older CPUs and handheld PCs and performed general performance and stability work for consoles and desktop systems. The studio described the patch as the most substantial since the game’s June release.
