G2 Esports’ Champions Shanghai run ends in fourth place

G2 Esports lost 2-1 to 100 Thieves in the lower bracket of VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026, finishing fourth at the tournament.

G2 Esports’ loss to 100 Thieves ended its run at VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026. The team had beaten 100 Thieves in the opening playoff round, sending them into the lower bracket, before losing the rematch.

G2 won the first map and narrowly missed taking the second. 100 Thieves built a larger lead on the deciding map to secure the series and continue its tournament run.

G2 has recorded several strong regional results but has not won an international title. In 2026, the team finished fourth at Masters Santiago, placed seventh-eighth at Masters London and finished fourth at Champions Shanghai. In 2025, G2 reached the Masters Bangkok final, finished fourth at Masters Toronto and placed seventh-eighth at Champions 2025.

The result could lead to changes in G2’s roster before the 2027 VCT season. Players and members of the organization have described Champions Shanghai as a possible “last dance” for the lineup. Nathan “leaf” Orf, Trent “trent” Cairns and head coach Josh “JoshRT” Lee are contracted through 2028. The contracts of the other roster members remain uncertain.

VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026 began on September 24 and is scheduled to end on October 18. Team Vitality, 100 Thieves and LOUD remain in contention for the title and a share of the $1 million prize pool.
