Forza Horizon 6 PC Build Leaked After Unencrypted Steam Preload
An unencrypted 155 GB PC preload for Forza Horizon 6 was uploaded to Steam and leaked online a week before the game’s May 19, 2026 release, enabling early downloads and play.
A full 155 GB PC build of Forza Horizon 6 was published to Steam without encryption and was downloaded and shared online a week before the game’s May 19, 2026 release. The files were available after a preload intended for distribution before launch was uploaded without the usual encryption that prevents early execution.
Steam supports encrypted preloads that allow users to download files but not run them until release. Tracking of Steam updates flagged the Forza Horizon 6 preload shortly after it went live. Users who accessed the unencrypted files distributed instructions to run the build, and some players have streamed gameplay from the leaked copy.
The leaked package contains the complete PC build. Forza Horizon 6 does not use heavy DRM such as Denuvo, which made cracking and running the pirated build easier for those who obtained it. Reports indicate the game can run offline from the leaked files. Attempts to sign in to Xbox online services with a pirated copy can lead to account sanctions or bans.
Microsoft and developer Playground Games prepared the preload for release; neither company has provided a public, detailed explanation for why encryption was not applied. The omission has been attributed in initial accounts to human error in the publishing process.
Despite the pre-release leak, Forza Horizon 6 was listed at number two on the Steam Top Sellers chart before its official launch, trailing Counter-Strike 2. The game is scheduled to release May 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The Premium Edition includes a four-day early access window for purchasers.
The incident involved distribution steps and protections used when publishers push preloads to digital stores. The presence of an unencrypted build on the platform and the subsequent availability of instructions to run the files prompted immediate distribution of the game files online.
