FOKUS benches coach kuben as team shifts direction

FOKUS has placed Jakub ‘kuben’ Gurczyński on the bench and announced it will adopt a new direction for the team. Kuben became head coach in February, when the German organisation entered Counter-Strike with an international roster led by Erik ‘ztr’ Gustafsson.

FOKUS’s active roster currently lists Matias ‘Banjo’ Kivistö, Mateo ‘Matheos’ Prišlin, Erik ‘ztr’ Gustafsson, Paavo ‘podi’ Heiskanen and Jacob ‘jocab’ Nerheden. The organisation lists Jakub ‘kuben’ Gurczyński as the benched coach.

The team is 55th in the global VRS ranking. Following summer roster changes — the departures of Georgi ‘Jorko’ Mitev and Sebastian ‘volt’ Maloș and the arrivals of Paavo ‘podi’ Heiskanen and Jacob ‘jocab’ Nerheden — FOKUS finished 9th-16th at BLAST Bounty, 17th-32nd in the European World Cup open qualifier and 9th-12th at Stake Pulse Beat II.

FOKUS has been invited to the playoff stage of NODWIN Clutch Series 12 and is entered in ROG Journey Autumn, a $20,000 event in Skövde, Sweden.

The organisation’s announcement included the phrase ‘move forward with a new direction for the team’ but did not name a replacement coach or explain how coaching duties will be handled for upcoming events. The statement did not include comments from kuben or the players.
