FaZe beat Sangal 2-1 in the Roman Imperium Cup IX upper-bracket quarter-final, losing Dust2 in overtime before winning Nuke and Cache.
FaZe defeated Sangal 2-1 in the Roman Imperium Cup IX upper-bracket quarter-final. The result sends FaZe into the next round of the upper bracket, while Sangal’s tournament run ends.
FaZe entered the playoffs as the event’s number one seed, making this their first match of the tournament. Sangal reached the quarter-final after playing through the group stage and a play-in match. The series was played on Dust2, Nuke and Cache.
FaZe opened on their map pick, Dust2, with a 3-0 lead. Sangal recovered and finished the first half ahead 7-5. Neither team secured the map in regulation, and Sangal won overtime 16-13 to take a 1-0 lead.
Sangal selected Nuke for the second map. FaZe led 8-4 after the first half and maintained control on the attacking side. Russell “Twistzz” Van Dulken, who also serves as FaZe’s in-game leader, helped guide the team to a 13-7 win and level the series.
FaZe again led 8-4 at halftime on Cache, the deciding map. Sangal tied the score at 8-8 before Twistzz recorded four kills with a Tec-9 in one round. FaZe then moved ahead 11-8.
Jakub “jcobbb” Pietruszewski followed with an ace while completing a one-versus-two clutch. The round put FaZe one round from victory. FaZe won the next rounds to take Cache and the series 2-1.
