Falcons Coach Zonic: Trophy Would Ease Club Pressure
Falcons coach Danny ‘zonic’ Sørensen said winning Sunday’s final would relieve pressure on the Saudi club after signing Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen.
Falcons coach Danny ‘zonic’ Sørensen said winning Sunday’s best-of-five final would relieve pressure on the Saudi organization. Falcons reached a second straight grand final after adding Finn ‘karrigan’ Andersen to replace Damjan ‘kyxsan’ Stoilkovski.
Falcons advanced after a semi-final in which they lost the opening map, Mirage, then won the next two maps to secure the series. The final will pit them against either MIBR or Legacy.
Sørensen said a trophy would lift a weight off the squad after more than a year without an event win, pointing to pressure from the community, the team’s composition and the club’s history.
He described the Mirage start as “a bit of the old patterns” but praised the recovery on maps two and three, adding that playoff wins count regardless of how they look. Limited practice time with karrigan and a long road schedule have affected preparation.
Mirage has been a recurring challenge while the team integrates new roles. Karrigan is operating on B and needs to build chemistry with Maksim, while René handles duties on A. Coaching staff prioritized Dust2 in recent practice, which was reflected in their play, but errors have occurred as the lineup settles.
Sørensen said the team is adapting to karrigan’s systems day by day and collecting tactical data to use at the upcoming Major and later in the season. He also noted squad fatigue after an extended stretch on the road.
On mindset, Sørensen delivers a mixed message: some players must tighten discipline and avoid unnecessary peeks, while others should relax and take more duels when they trust their instincts. “I don’t care who we meet. I just want Falcons to play good CS,” he said.
Falcons advanced by beating Legacy. Regarding the final, Sørensen said the team will focus on one match at a time: “If we don’t lift the trophy tomorrow, yes, we will be disappointed, but we are going in the right direction,” he said.
