Esports Foundation adds three wildcard routes for ENC 2026

The Esports Foundation will offer Solidarity Slots, Host Region Slots and Special Invites to broaden country qualification for Esports Nations Cup 2026.

The Esports Foundation announced three new wildcard slot types for the Esports Nations Cup 2026 — Solidarity Slots, Host Region Slots and Special Invites — to broaden which countries and territories can qualify for the tournament.

Solidarity Slots target countries and territories with smaller esports ecosystems. They are available for all ENC titles except Counter-Strike 2. Nations that have not already qualified in more than one title may apply between July 20 and August 17. Applications will be assessed with emphasis on each country’s strongest titles; after standard qualifiers finish the Esports Foundation and game publishers will confirm final selections based on competitive strength and regional representation.

Slot allocations differ by title. Chess will receive two Solidarity Slots. EA SPORTS FC will offer five Special Invites and two Solidarity Slots. PUBG MOBILE will have four Special Invites and one Solidarity Slot. Honor of Kings and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will each receive one Special Invite and one Solidarity Slot. Rocket League will have two Solidarity Slots. All other titles, except Counter-Strike 2, will receive one Solidarity Slot by default.

Host Region Slots will go to the host region rather than a single host nation and will be awarded on merit. For ENC 2026 the slot is reserved for the Gulf Cooperation Council region and will go to the highest-performing GCC nation that has not already qualified through regular qualifiers.

Special Invites are reserved for teams unable to join regular qualifiers because of technical or structural limitations. These invites will be used only for selected titles and cases and will follow publisher and game-specific eligibility rules rather than competitive results.

All wildcard slot participants will receive travel and accommodation support and will use the same player experience system as other qualified teams at the ENC Finals.

The Esports Foundation clarified that the ENC Finals are organized by the foundation and that Electronic Arts is not responsible for event operations. National teams for EA titles such as Apex Legends and EA SPORTS FC will qualify through EA-run qualifiers or direct invitations and are not connected to ENC National Team Partners.

Fabian Scheuermann, Chief Games Officer at the Esports Foundation, described the framework as designed to allow more players to represent their countries on the global stage and to create new pathways for players from underrepresented regions.
