DreamHack ends BYOC LAN zone worldwide

DreamHack will end its BYOC LAN zone worldwide after organizers reported BYOC attendees made up under 10% of global ticket sales in 2025.

DreamHack will end its Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) LAN zone at all events worldwide, organizers announced after ticketing data showed BYOC attendees comprised less than 10% of global sales in 2025. The company described the decline in BYOC participation as the primary factor behind the decision.

BYOC is a LAN-style setup in which participants bring their own PCs, monitors and peripherals. Event staff normally supply tables, power outlets and a local network so players can connect and run tournaments and community sessions on-site.

Organizers reported that fewer festival attendees now bring personal setups to large events, and that demand for BYOC spaces dropped sharply in recent years. They added that the technical and logistical requirements to support large BYOC areas have grown more complex and resource-intensive.

DreamHack outlined the support needed for BYOC operations: high-capacity networking, reliable power distribution, dedicated floor space and on-site technical teams to manage connectivity and equipment issues. The organizers said the small share of BYOC participants no longer covers those costs and efforts.

The festival said it will shift programming toward other formats and experiences rather than maintain the traditional LAN footprint. Organizers acknowledged BYOC’s long history at DreamHack events while saying future shows will emphasize different types of competitive and social offerings.

BYOC has long enabled thousands of players to connect and compete at LAN events, allowing community groups to host amateur tournaments and social gatherings by plugging personal equipment into a centralized network and power grid provided by the host.
