Capcom adds free roguelike ‘Leon Must Die Forever’ to Requiem

Capcom quietly released a free roguelike mode, ‘Leon Must Die Forever,’ for Resident Evil Requiem on May 7, 2026. The PS5/PC update v1.300.000 unlocks it after finishing the main campaign.

Capcom released a free roguelike minigame called ‘Leon Must Die Forever’ for Resident Evil Requiem on May 7, 2026 as part of update v1.300.000 for PS5 and PC. The mode becomes available after players complete the game’s main campaign. After updating, players can access it from the Main Menu by selecting Extra Games and then choosing ‘Leon Must Die Forever.’

The mode sends protagonist Leon Kennedy through 20 timed levels made up of areas from the base campaign. There are no cutscenes; players race against a timer while facing enemies that increase in difficulty across successive stages and culminate in a boss fight against Victor. The level layout includes branching paths and glowing doors that mark the route to the next area.

Runs include randomized weapon drops and enhancer abilities that change combat performance. Enhancers can boost weapon firepower, improve hatchet durability and alter other combat traits, creating different conditions for each attempt. The mode is presented as an endurance-style roguelike run rather than a narrative expansion. Leon is the only playable character at launch.

Update v1.300.000 also adds 11 challenges tied to the new mode that award challenge points. Players can spend challenge points earned in the main story to unlock items within ‘Leon Must Die Forever,’ allowing progress in the minigame to connect with progress in the base campaign.

Capcom’s director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa urged players before Golden Week to finish the main story, noting additional content would follow completion. Fans later pointed out a visual hint in earlier footage: Nakanishi wore an ‘Ethan Must Die’ T-shirt, which players interpreted as a reference to the roguelike, time-attack format.

Capcom has said the larger story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem remains in development and has not received a confirmed release window. Rumors have suggested the expansion could arrive in 2026 and might include characters such as Chris Redfield and Ada Wong. For now, ‘Leon Must Die Forever’ is the only free content added in update v1.300.000 and is available immediately to PS5 and PC owners who have completed the main campaign.
