BETBOOM Reach Thunderpick World Championship Playoffs
BETBOOM beat Legacy 2-1 to reach the Thunderpick World Championship playoffs. The team will face Falcons in the semifinal on Oct. 17.
BETBOOM secured the final place in the Thunderpick World Championship’s four-team playoff bracket with a 2-1 win over Legacy in Malta. The result set up a semifinal against Falcons, scheduled for Oct. 17 at 17:00.
Legacy led 12-7 on Nuke, but BETBOOM recovered to force overtime and win the map. Legacy then took Dust2 to level the series. BETBOOM won Mirage 13-11 to advance.
In a postmatch interview, BETBOOM captain Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov described the series as “crazy.” He identified the team’s T side on Dust2 as its main weakness, saying the map was stressful and that the players were “doing something wrong.”
The semifinal will be the teams’ first meeting since Stage 3 of the IEM Cologne Major, where BETBOOM won 2-0. Kirill “Magnojez” Rodnov recorded a 1.86 rating in that match, while Timur “FL4MUS” Marev played as a stand-in for BETBOOM.
Boombl4 noted that BETBOOM now has a full lineup after using several stand-ins last season. “It should be a great experience, and maybe we can make it to the final,” he added.
BETBOOM won its last two group-stage matches in Malta after losing to FURIA on the opening day. The results lifted the team into the top 10 of the global Valve Regional Standings.
The team is scheduled to compete in Bucharest and Beijing before the Singapore Major. Boombl4 described BETBOOM’s form at the tournament as improved and said the players were enjoying their matches more after dealing with stress during the first three tournaments of the season.
At the start of the season, the team set a goal of staying in the top 15 or top 16, earning LAN invitations and gaining experience. Boombl4 explained that BETBOOM now hopes to reach at least two more playoffs, including at the current tournament and at future events.
