zhokiNg helps TYLOO cover secondary IGL gap in 9z win
TYLOO defeated 9z at PGL Masters Bucharest despite Jee’s illness, with stand-in zhokiNg sharing in-game leadership duties as the team improved its PGL Major Singapore qualification chances.
TYLOO moved closer to qualifying for the PGL Major Singapore after defeating 9z at PGL Masters Bucharest. Stand-in WeiJie “zhokiNg” Zhong helped cover the team’s secondary in-game leader role after Dongkai “Jee” Ji fell ill.
Jee’s absence reduced TYLOO’s firepower, but zhokiNg said it had little effect on the team’s mentality. The players were able to compete freely and performed well, he added.
The series had a direct effect on TYLOO’s qualification chances. “This match, to a large extent, determines whether we can qualify for the Singapore Major,” zhokiNg said. “So it’s very important. This victory was crucial.”
ZhokiNg described his main contribution as sharing the workload with TYLOO’s in-game leader. He gives his own opinions, makes calls and coordinates the team during mid-round situations to help players execute their plans.
“Actually, our team’s biggest problem has always been the lack of a secondary IGL on the server, lack of someone who can help share the pressure with our in-game leader,” he said. “So when I’m on the server, I can actually fill that gap pretty well.”
TYLOO have had less success at international events this season than in previous campaigns. ZhokiNg linked those results to the lack of a second player providing ideas and calls on both offense and defense.
“The main reason is also what I just mentioned, that we’re now stuck in a bottleneck,” he said. “There’s no secondary IGL on the server to share some of the pressure on offense, and also on defense, having a second person’s ideas as well. That’s mainly the reason. And that’s also what we need to change and improve going forward.”
The interview was conducted with the help of an interpreter, and the answers were translated.
