Worlds 2026 Play-In Preview: Four Teams, One Swiss Spot

Worlds 2026 begins Oct. 15 with FURIA, MVK Esports, Karmine Corp and Cloud9 competing for the final place in the Swiss Stage.

The Worlds 2026 Play-In stage starts Oct. 15 with four teams competing for one place in the Swiss Stage. Three teams will be eliminated during the four-day event.

FURIA will face MVK Esports in the opening series at Riot Games Arena in Los Angeles. Karmine Corp will then play Cloud9. The winners will advance to the Upper Bracket Final, while the losing teams will enter the Lower Bracket for another chance to remain in the tournament.

The Play-In bracket will conclude with the deciding match on Oct. 18. FURIA enters its opening series against MVK Esports as the favored team. MVK Esports could become the first team eliminated from the event.

The Karmine Corp-Cloud9 series is expected to be more evenly matched. Both teams have competed internationally. Karmine Corp has more recent international experience, while Cloud9 will have home-crowd support in Los Angeles.

The bracket could produce a rematch between Karmine Corp and Cloud9 in the final. FURIA could also meet Cloud9, following recent international wins by Brazilian teams over North American opponents.

The Play-In matches will be streamed on Riot Games’ official Twitch and YouTube channels and by authorized co-streamers. The main event is scheduled for Oct. 23 through Nov. 14 at venues across the United States.

The Swiss Stage will begin at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas. The Grand Finals are scheduled for Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The winner will receive the $1 million prize pool and the 2026 League of Legends world championship.
