Riot Delays League of Legends Team Voice Launch

Riot Games has postponed the launch of Team Voice, the planned expansion of in-game voice chat for League of Legends. The feature was first confirmed on March 13 and received further technical details in early September; a gradual rollout had been scheduled to begin in North America and Oceania.

Riot’s announcement cited the need for additional work on system stability, voice clarity and moderation tools before a wider release. The company did not provide a new public launch date when it announced the delay.

Team Voice was developed to allow voice communication between all players on a team, not just members of premade groups. Planned technical changes included improved noise cancellation, faster connection times to reduce latency and greater connection stability. The feature also includes “voice skins,” options that alter a player’s voice while preserving intelligibility during high-intensity moments such as teamfights.

Access to Team Voice was to be limited to players at Honor level 3 or higher. Riot tied that requirement to player conduct and said the threshold was intended to restrict the feature to accounts that have maintained positive behavior.

Riot’s statement emphasized testing and moderation as priorities and noted the company will continue a phased deployment once engineers and safety teams are satisfied with the feature’s performance in target regions. The developer plans to expand the rollout to additional servers only when it can provide regional support and moderation.

League of Legends currently supports voice chat only within premade parties. Team Voice was intended to let teammates who are not grouped together communicate directly in matches. The postponement means more internal validation and testing before the feature becomes broadly available.
