Overwatch World Cup 2026 on track for biggest audience

The Overwatch World Cup 2026 group stage saw Hours Watched rise 90% year-over-year and Average Viewers increase 14.6% after organizers changed group series from best-of-three to best-of-five. The expanded format raised total airtime during the stage held at the Busan Esports Arena.

The event returned to a national-team format with 16 teams, including both 2023 finalists and three winners of regional qualifiers from the Americas, EMEA and Asia. Group-stage play ran from August 20 to early September.

Group-stage peak concurrent viewership reached 159,300, a 5.8% increase from the same stage in 2023. The most-watched group-stage match was Sweden versus Japan. Japanese- and Korean-language broadcasts had already surpassed their total viewership from the entire 2023 tournament by the end of the group stage. English- and Arabic-language broadcasts were trailing their 2023 totals at that point.

Four teams finished first in their groups: the United States, Saudi Arabia, Germany and France. Japan and China were eliminated in the group stage.

The playoffs will be held September 12–14 at the Anaheim Convention Center. First-round matchups and Central European Time start times are Saudi Arabia versus Spain on Sept. 12 at 20:00 CET; Germany versus Sweden on Sept. 12 at 21:30 CET; United States versus South Korea on Sept. 12 at 23:00 CET; and France versus Australia on Sept. 13 at 00:30 CET. The eight remaining teams will compete across those three days.

The 2023 Overwatch World Cup recorded 5.5 million Hours Watched, including the playoffs. Final peak viewer numbers and total Hours Watched for 2026 will depend on which teams advance through the playoff rounds.
