CS2 Cache remake delivers 22% FPS boost in early tests

Valve adds Cache back to CS2’s competitive map pool; testing by creator ThourCS logged ~22.5% higher average FPS and 31.9% higher 1% lows on a 9800X3D/RTX 5070 system.

Valve returned Cache to Counter-Strike 2’s competitive map pool today, bringing back one of the series’ most recognizable battlegrounds after months of teasers.

The remake keeps the original layout from level designer FMPONE while delivering a full visual refresh for CS2. Lighting, materials and other assets have been rebuilt to align with the game’s engine and art standards.

In testing published by CS2 content creator and dataminer ThourCS, the updated Cache delivered about 22.5% higher average frames per second and a 31.9% improvement in 1% lows compared with the prior version. The comparison used the same walking path across both iterations to limit variables.

The measurements were captured on a desktop featuring a 9800X3D processor and an RTX 5070 graphics card. Results on mid-range and entry-level hardware may differ.

Cache is available now in Casual, Competitive, Deathmatch and other modes in CS2. Valve has not added the map to the Premier pool.

First introduced in earlier Counter-Strike titles, Cache gained a following for clear sightlines and mid-control play. Valve’s rebuild preserves the familiar routes and timings while updating the map to CS2’s visuals.
