m0NESY: kyousuke may overthink his role in officials

Falcons AWPer m0NESY believes kyousuke may overthink his communication duties in official matches, despite showing good form in practice and on FACEIT.

Falcons AWPer Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov believes Maksim “kyousuke” Lukin may overthink his communication duties during official matches. He added that the young player continues to show good form in practice and on FACEIT.

Ahead of IEM Beijing, m0NESY described kyousuke’s aim, communication and decision-making as strong outside official games. He suggested that the player’s responsibilities can make him feel pressure to constantly speak and act.

“Maybe sometimes he overthinks and he thinks that he’s forced to say something, to always do something,” m0NESY explained. “But everything that he needs, most of the time, is to just focus on his crosshair and be himself.”

Falcons’ captain, coaches and players are helping kyousuke manage that pressure, according to m0NESY. He rejected the idea that the player had lost motivation after winning a Major early in his career.

“Not for Maksim, definitely,” m0NESY said when asked whether the title had reduced kyousuke’s desire to compete.

Falcons have had two weeks without official matches since finishing fourth at the Thunderpick World Championship. The team used the break to return to basic principles after giving away strong leads against BetBoom and Aurora.

Those principles include playing off teammates, supporting them, communicating clearly and making quick decisions. m0NESY also identified playing too cautiously, feeling stressed and overpeeking as problems during recent matches.

“The most important thing on this level … is to remember the basics that you have learned from the beginning of CS,” m0NESY said. “We shouldn’t really overthink it too much.”

Spirit and Vitality are absent from IEM Beijing, but m0NESY does not expect the tournament to be easier. Falcons will open their campaign against NAVI, and he said the team must stay focused regardless of its opponent.

Falcons are also considering adding Cache to their map pool. m0NESY described the map as suitable for aggressive AWP play and said it could give the team more options during vetoes. He did not specify when Falcons would begin using it in official matches.

In September, m0NESY extended his Falcons contract through 2030. He said the organization and its players share the goal of winning tournaments and competing at the highest level.
