HUASOPEEK credits kyousuke and donk for sharper entries

Ahead of FISSURE Playground 3 in Suzhou, 9z entry Matias “HUASOPEEK” Ibañez says studying kyousuke and donk improved his opening play.

Matias “HUASOPEEK” Ibañez credited studying Maksim “kyousuke” Lukin and Danil “donk” Kryshkovets with sharpening his entry work as 9z return to Suzhou for FISSURE Playground 3. The team seeks to recover after consecutive group-stage exits.

Ibañez said he now watches a wider range of entry styles and borrows techniques from players who excel at the role. “Now I’m looking at other entries, so I’m taking a lot of experience from how they do that job,” he said, adding that both kyousuke and donk have approaches he studies closely.

9z arrive in China off a title win at XSE Pro League Guangzhou and Ibañez’s first career MVP award, followed by two events where the squad failed to reach playoffs, including a loss to Magic in Paris. Ibañez pointed to those results and to lessons learned in Cologne as reasons for adjusting how he opens rounds.

He described specific changes to entries and to how the team structures early rounds, with more attention on coordination and on how each player performs the opening. Ibañez said the immediate aim for 9z is to regain confidence in opening matches.

“The first objective is to reach the playoffs, and after that, to win the tournament,” he added when asked about expectations for Suzhou.

Ibañez also discussed the reaction in Chile after his MVP award, saying he received messages from people he did not expect to hear from, including players from other games. He said the attention has been large but that his standards remain the same. “I always think and do my job in the game, inside the game. And I think that award doesn’t change me because it’s just an award and just that,” he said.

As 9z begin their campaign at FISSURE Playground 3, the team plans to focus on early-match confidence and on returning to playoff contention before aiming for another title.
