Heroic loses EWC partner status after Dota 2 exit - news.white.market

HEROIC exited the 2026 Esports World Cup Club Partner Programme after disbanding its Dota 2 roster, forfeiting six-figure EWC funding and promotional support.

HEROIC has left the 2026 Esports World Cup (EWC) Club Partner Programme after disbanding its Dota 2 roster and releasing players and staff earlier this month. The organisation posted the announcement on X and said it had “mutually agreed” with the Esports Foundation to end participation because it no longer met the programme’s multi-title requirements.

HEROIC’s statement explained the Dota 2 team closure followed internal organizational changes and a review of the game’s long-term financial outlook for the club. The organisation cited that operating a Dota 2 roster was not financially sustainable despite competitive results in South America and a growing fanbase.

The roster disbanding took place during the competitive season and came ahead of events that include DreamLeague, EWC qualification events and The International 2026. HEROIC noted the timing affected its ability to maintain activity across multiple titles, a condition required for Club Partner status.

The EWC Club Partner Programme selects roughly 40 organisations each year and offers financial and promotional support. Partner clubs receive reported six-figure base funding, and some can earn additional incentives tied to fan engagement, marketing and content production worth up to around $1 million.

To remain in the programme, organisations must compete across several esports titles and keep steady competitive and commercial activity. By exiting Dota 2, HEROIC lost the title that sustained its multi-game footprint and thus became ineligible for the partnership benefits.

Arthur Perticoz, CEO of Karmine Corp, has estimated that teams excluded from the partner programme can forgo roughly $200,000–$300,000 in support, creating a measurable gap in club budgets.

HEROIC can still attempt to qualify for EWC events through standard qualification routes, particularly in Counter-Strike 2, which remains the organisation’s primary title. The Esports Foundation has not confirmed whether it will name a replacement partner for HEROIC’s slot.

Several prominent clubs, including Karmine Corp, FaZe and LOUD, were not included in this year’s partner list. The EWC partnership is aimed at organisations that field teams across multiple games and maintain active commercial programs.
