Fable reboot’s main campaign set at 15-20 hours

Playground Games estimates the Fable reboot’s main story will take 15-20 hours, with side quests and exploration adding about 15-20 hours. The estimate was given at Gamescom 2026.

Playground Games estimated the upcoming Fable reboot’s main campaign will take about 15-20 hours to complete, with side quests and open-world exploration adding roughly another 15-20 hours. The estimate was provided during a group Q&A at Gamescom 2026 by associate game directors Will Kennedy and Craig Littler.

Kennedy described the main story as intentionally compact compared with many modern open-world role-playing games, designed so players can finish the central narrative in about 15-20 hours. The developers presented the shorter main campaign as a design choice to keep the core plot focused.

Kennedy described the game’s “life systems” as “effectively limitless.” Littler noted that players “can essentially continue playing for as long as they want,” and the developers said optional content and emergent systems will extend play beyond the core campaign.

Playground Games’ estimates place combined questing and exploration at roughly 30-40 hours for players who engage with side content, while players who follow only main quests can expect a shorter playthrough through Albion.

If the studio reaches the higher end of its target, the reboot’s main campaign would exceed the main-story lengths of earlier entries in the series: the original Fable’s main story measures about 12.5 hours, Fable 2 about 13 hours, and Fable 3 about 13.5 hours. Earlier titles could reach dozens of hours when players pursued most available content.

The Fable reboot is scheduled to launch on February 23, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Playground Games noted the quoted playtime applies to the campaign and core activities; players who explore every corner of Albion, complete optional missions and engage deeply with game systems may log considerably more hours.
